65 and Going

By Ed Jackel

David Sanders is breaking away … from his family and his former life. His wife, Molly, died two years before, he has retired from his work, his children are grown, and David is restless.

Getting up each morning to a day with no purpose is depressing, and David has no intention of spending the rest of his life like this. Over the objections of his family and friends, he announces he is going to leave.

“I want to go by myself, and where and when I want to,” he tells his son. “I won’t have any destination. It will be fun traveling without a definite goal or schedule.”

Along the way, David encounters some truths about himself and proves that a “senior citizen” can still be resourceful and independent. He is finally able to set his course for the destination that will mean the most.

Ed Jackel is originally from New York but has spent much of his life living and working in the South. His service in the Army during World War II gave him the many experiences for his other book, Lucky Infantryman.
He presently resides in Atlanta.
